Website Evaluations

You may know there is a problem with your Website, but do you know why it isn't meeting your needs and goals?

Getting an assessment of your site's strengths and weaknesses will give you the knowledge you need to improve your site's performance.

Common Website Problems

Websites should be designed with your users in mind. They should contain well-written content, navigation should be intuitive, and they must download quickly.

Websites should also have a consistent layout throughout. Users should know they are on your site no matter which page they are on, and the page elements should be consistent throughout (i.e., navigation, text fonts, links, etc.).

Issues to Consider

  • Colors - Colors have meaning, does your site project the right image? Black text on a white background projects the most professional image. Designers also use color to direct the eye to the most important areas on the page.
  • Readability - Your Website should be easy to read. Is there adequate white space (areas with no text or graphics)? Reading text online is harder on the eyes. Adequate white space makes your text easier to read and adds emphasis to your images.
  • Links - Are the links obvious and do they use relevant keywords? Links are the most common interactive elements on most Websites. Users expect links to be underlined (making it obvious what they can click on) and they want to know what they will get when they click the link. They also expect to be able to tell at a glance what links they have already clicked.
  • Search Engines - Is there anything being done on your site that will prevent you from getting indexed by the major search engines? Search engine indexing is an important factor in most successful sites, yet you would be surprised at how many people follow bad advice and get their sites banned by the search engines.
  • Contact Information - Is your contact information easy to find? Making it easy to contact you gives your users a sense of security and makes you more trustworthy.

These are just a few of the most common problems, I'm sure you could add to the list from bad sites you've visited. Let me help you make sure your site isn't one of them.

Assessment & Report

I'll visit your site and spend as much time as you would like reviewing your whole site or specific sections. If they are available, I can also review your log files as part of the assessment. I'll create a written report of your site's strengths and weaknesses and include suggestions for fixing any problems.

I can spend as little as one hour on a quick assessment covering the most significant or obvious problem areas or provide you with as detailed an analysis of your site as you would like.

An assessment of your Website can help you isolate areas that aren't meeting your goals and provide direction to improve your site's performance.
